About the Institute

History

The Institute for Comparative and International Studies (ICIS) was established in 1998 upon recommendation of a faculty task force appointed by the Dean of Emory College. Dedicated to the advancement of comparative and international scholarship and education, the Institute both generates initiatives and collaborates with faculty, departments, and programs in Arts and Sciences at Emory University to:

The Institute for Comparative and International Studies (ICIS) develops, sponsors, and administers collaborative projects with Emory faculty and departments in Arts and Sciences.

Programs

The component units and programs of ICIS include:

Area Studies Programs

The Center for International Programs Abroad

Includes administration and support for a wide range of undergraduate study abroad programs across all major world areas

The Emory College Language Center

Includes language and instructional support for a wide variety of common foreign and less commonly taught foreign languages

The ICIS Seminar and Fellowship Program

Includes graduate and post-doctoral fellowships, theme programs, seminars, conferences, workshops, visiting speakers, and special events of international significance)

ICIS faculty and student support for international travel and research

ICIS supports international research and international conference travel for Emory faculty and provides international scholarship and fellowship support for Emory undergraduate and graduate students.
